#BossedUP: VOGUE Italia Eyes Fashionista @JamesBlackYC

MALI’S NOTES: LISTEN! I don’t believe I have to convince you how MAJOR this feature on Jamaica’s own Fashion Designer, Creative Director of Yahdie Conscious and GLAMHead James Black, really is. So without further ado, a snippet of the article followed by the link to the full length feature and some other fun facts! Well all that after you stop ogling her picture, of course!

“Her ability to design or customize whatever she envisioned doesn’t only make her a successful fashion blogger. James Black is also a great designer and tastemaker who approaches fashion in her own unique way. With a style that is a mix of Jamaican tradition and pop culture influences she is building a follow far beyond the tropical island. Born and raised in the middle of tropical surroundings fashion wasn’t something James opted as a little girl. “I was definitely a tomboy during my childhood,” she says. According to James this partly has to do with her environment, as the weather doesn’t stimulate to wear high heels for example, but to go for a more casual look. Another factor, in her eyes, is that Jamaicans are really laid back in the way they approach life itself and thus fashion. For James this personal outlook on fashion changed during high school when she discovered she likes to give pieces her personal touch by customizing them.”

PS: I sat with James in September 2011 in Kingston, JA to feature her on my Young Black Entrepreneurs (YBE) Vlog series. I too found her quest to be a fashion icon and designer, starting right there in her home in the hills of St. Andrew, to be awe-inspiring and ambitious. Without a doubt I am convinced that HER REIGN will manifest because she has the TALENT, the DRIVE, and the WILL to MAKE IT SO!
